Tom has been a leader in not-for-profit management for over 25 years. His leadership at The Alford Group has steadily increased in his nine year career. Tom joined the firm as a Vice President and was soon after named Vice Chair and Chief Operating Officer. In 2003, Tom was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer to build upon The Alford Group’s 25 year history of strengthening not-for-profits nationwide.
As an Alford Group consultant, he has been directly involved with over 50 clients throughout the country. Specifically, he succeeded in expanding the capacities of the Group Health Community Foundation in Seattle, planning for the initial Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center in San Diego and growing the endowment of the Anchorage Concert Association in Alaska.
Prior to joining The Alford Group Tom was Vice President/Fund Development for the Sisters of Providence Health System (SPHS) in Springfield, Massachusetts. At SPHS he re-focused the fundraising program of its six institutions and planned two capital campaigns. Tom served as the President of the Providence Foundation of Seattle from 1982 to 1992. During his tenure, he grew contributions from $100,000 a year to nearly $2,000,000 by building a major gifts program. From 1975 to 1982, Tom held several positions with the Chief Seattle Council, Boy Scouts of America, one of the largest Councils in the country. Tom served as Director of Financial Services for four years where he led all administrative, fundraising and financial management activities.
Tom has been an instructor for the First Course in Fund Raising and the CFRE Survey Course sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) since 1984. He is also a former instructor for the University of Washington Extension’s Certificate Program in Fund Raising.
