Program Description

Are you on Facebook? Do you ‘tweet’ on Twitter? How LinkedIn are you? Or have you watched from the sidelines, taking a wait and see approach, as social networking sites have become ubiquitous in our culture?

Many of our colleagues, clients and prospects are active on one or more social networking sites. Aaron will share some first hand experiences about how Whitworth has harnessed the positive power of social networking sites in reaching out to the university's diverse constituency, while avoiding some common pitfalls.

About our speaker:

Aaron McMurray is the Director of Alumni & Parent Relations and Annual Giving at Whitworth University, where he has worked since 2008. In this role, Aaron has worked with Whitworth's WEB 2.0 team in planning and executing an ongoing strategy to harness the power of social media to raise Whitworth's profile with alumni, donors and prospective students. Prior to his role at Whitworth, he worked for several years in the private sector in internet sales and marketing, and for 12 years in a non-profit leadership role with local youth organization, Young Life.

After graduating from Whitworth with a BA in History in 1995, Aaron completed both a Master's in Organizational Leadership and a PhD in Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University. He teaches leadership classes to undergraduates at Gonzaga and coaches his twin boys in soccer and basketball. In addition to the boys who are 7, Aaron and his wife Darcy have 3-year and 1-year old daughters.
